      Seed School in a Day

Seed saving is an ancient tradition going back nearly 12,000 years. This back-and-forth dance with the plants has transformed the human race and is a fundamental part of our story as a species. Through the careful techniques of growing, selecting, and replanting seeds from the best plants each season, ancient farmers and gardeners created an incredible diversity of crop varieties that helped them adapt to changing geographic and climatic conditions.  In our modern times, this timeless tradition has fallen out of common practice and much of the abundant seed diversity we once stewarded has all but disappeared. 'Seed School in a Day' is a pioneering one-day course that helps to shape the local seed and food movements far and wide. Advance your seed saving knowledge through an engaging, experiential, hands-on educational workshop rooted in traditional practices. In partnership with Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance and Countryside, the Cleveland Seed Bank brings you the following course topics:  Modules1. Selection and Genetics2. Biology and Structure3. Harvesting, Processing, and Storage4. Wild Seeds5. History, Industry, Patents6. Pollination and Breeding7. Big Picture and the Spirit of Seeds8. Adding Seed Production to Your Farm9. Seed Saving Myths Tuition is $75.00 for a full day of hands-on learning and $50.00 for CSB members or CVNP farmers. Seed School in a Day will be hosted in the Countryside office at 4965 Quick Road in Peninsula, Ohio. Brown bag lunch is recommended. CSB and Countryside are teaming up to provide coffee, tea, light refreshments and light snacks throughout the day.  November 2, 2019 from 9 am to 5 pm.
