      Gin 101

The gin revival has been in motion for quite some time now with the able help of the craft cocktail movement. But many people still have an aversion to gin due to a bad experience with a lesser quality gin in their youth. Others might be ok with gin, but have never had the chance to try an earlier style gin that influenced the dry gin styles we know today. Our Gin 101 class seeks to alleviate all such issues. Join our drinksmith Tim Harnett on a journey through gin’s genesis, rocky dark ages, and the evolution of gin into a cherished cocktail spirit. As part of this, we will taste the original “Genever” style Dutch gin, the “Old Tom” style that developed shortly afterwards in England, the widely known London Dry style, as well as Western Reserve’s “New Western” expression of gin. This special evening will also feature several signature cocktails that adopt each adopt one of these gin styles as a base sprit. Many of these will be original creations; some also include classic styles from history’s outstanding mixologists, while others will be “improved” spins on history’s great gin drink creations. Come and see how “the original flavored vodka” makes its ongoing mark in spirit history.
