The National Prohibition Act also known as the Volstead Act, was passed into law in 1919. Prohibition was enforced beginning January 17, 1920, at which time the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcohol within the US became illegal. In the years leading up to Prohibition (the pre-Prohibition or pre-Pro era), saloons were to be found on every street corner and were as common as drug stores are today. Saloons were once a place of gathering, a safe haven where a person could grab an affordable drink or two and a quick bite before heading home after a long day of work. Monday is our day to recreate the past. For $5.00 you can enjoy a hand-crafted prohibition era cocktail and complimentary food at the Western Reserve Distillers, The Distillery Bar. Welcome back to 1919, we couldn’t think of a better way to start the week.
